ROSEAU RIVER CHIEF AND COUNCIL
he Roseau River Chief and Council (Owaawanoshko-ziibiing Ogimaakaanag) signs and ensures contractual obligations are met as outlined in RRAFN-FNIH contribution agreements. They are responsible to ensure that the Wellness Centre provides accountable, equitable and consistent health care to the residents of RRAFN. In the health transfer setting, the Chief and Council delegate management of service delivery to the Health Committee and the Executive Director of the Ginew Wellness Center.

he establishment of a Health Committee (Mino-ayaawin maamawi’abiwaad) is a way to address the move towards self-determination in the field of Health for Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation. The Ginew Wellness Center Health Committee operates as outlined in their Terms of Reference and their mandate is as follows:

To address, provide strategic direction and make recommendations on management and operational issues related to specific operations of the Ginew Wellness Centre.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES of the HEALTH COMMITTEE

The Health Committee is mandated to oversee the management of the Ginew Wellness Center by the Chief of Council
Utilizing the Health Committee Terms of Reference, The Health Committee is responsible to ensure that the administration, management, operational planning and policies of the Ginew Wellness Center are appropriate and meet the health needs of the community.
The Health Committee is also responsible to determine priority health needs, service planning, delivery and evaluation activities.
They may take an active role in Human Resource management, addressing staff and community complaints and providing direction to the Executive Director.
The Health Committee will ensure the vision and mission statements are upheld and reflected in the Community Health Plan and operations of the Ginew Wellness Center.
The Health Committee will assess, determine and ensure accountability of the resources available to support the operations of the Ginew Wellness Center and its health services programming.
The Health Committee will ensure adequate record keeping, consistent application of policy and communication between the Chief of Council, community and Wellness Center staff.
The Health Committee will regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Ginew Wellness Center and its health services programming.
